Why Choose a Demountable Wall System when
Renovating an Out-of-Date Existing Structure?
Countless businesses, schools and universities across America are renovating out-of-date existing structures using NxtWall demountable walls instead of dry wall construction. Demountable walls are taking over as the material of choice because field-fit demountable walls are so flexible and can adapt to older building’s imperfections such as cumbersome bulkheads and uneven flooring. Another major benefit of demountable walls, besides their competitive pricing and quick installation time, is the fact that demountable walls are 100% reconfigurable and can be altered and changed as needs grow or shrink or work patterns and demographics dictate.
When deciding how best to lay out the new district offices, the Superintendent of Schools in Morton, Washington grappled with a few questions. He wanted a wall system that would not only meet their needs today but also in the future as the district grew and class sizes and enrollment fluctuated. He wanted a cost competitive wall system, and he wanted flexibility in design to accommodate the age of the building and finally, he wanted a wall system that could provide a security vestibule. NxtWall was chosen and worked closely with the Superintendent and his staff to ensure the new Morton District Office configuration was exactly what they wanted. What follows is a brief summary of the project.
NxtWall Case Study: Morton School District
Morton School District located in Morton, Washington currently has 450 preK-12th grade students enrolled for the 2021–22 school year. A former chemistry lab was identified as a suitable location for the new Morton School District Offices. The vacant classroom needed to be transformed into an office suite with a security vestibule to truly meet the needs of the Superintendent of Schools and his team. Cost and timing were also concerns as was the age of the building which was built in 1957 and last renovated in 1968. The school district wanted to stay within budget and needed the work done quickly. Drywall was an option but was quickly ruled out because it could not meet the school’s district requirements.
The older building selected to house the new Morton School District Office presented many challenges but since NxtWall Demountable Walls are field-fit, allowances could be made on-the-spot for such things as bulkheads, light fixtures, and non-level floors. The use of NxtWall’s Flex Series allowed both solid and glass walls to be incorporated into the design which opened the room and allowed light to fall in otherwise dark areas. The need for a secure vestibule/outside entrance was quickly resolved with framing and the use of a solid 3/8-inch glass door with a Cortland locking lever set and a sliding glass window to screen visitors.
NxtWall installers were able to come in and build the offices and return to put in the glass in a matter of days. In fact, the whole transformation from chemistry lab to modern, professional office took just over three weeks to complete. The project was on time and within budget.
